Best Documentary Camcorder

Best Documentary Camcorder

What laptop / notebook is best for me??

Okay, I'll do a research project of the United States travel filming a documentary for people (if you know the best camcorder to get small and large works and compatible w / a laptop / notebook I'd like to hear about it.) I need a laptop / computer that has Wi-Fi, firewall, Ethernet connection, CD / DVD (like DVD burner, not just the DVD player), I also need some software and media has to have good sound and video editing can do well. Any suggestions? What price range are you looking at me? Thanks !!!!!! On the other hand, how many concerts I need?

You NEVER get a good sound from portable speakers. Something final, such a macbook pro will so so good. You should get headphones or external speakers. Make sure you get a firewire camera (and a laptop too). This makes it much easier to move the video between the two w / frame or drop commitment to quality, etc. All Apple laptops have a Firewire port. iMovie and iDVD are very easy to use, and a good way to start (and come with your new machine!) you always can go to something more sophisticated as Final Cut once you get some experience. For the type of editing to be done on the road is not necessary. Depending on what type of compression used and the resolution of video, you could end up eating 8-9 GB of disk space per hour of video (HDTV rates) in order to get as fat as you drive can handle. The person above is right on the desktop. You should go that way you can. Cost if? Sounds like you're in a cool $ 6k in good time to buy a laptop, good camera, cable, DVD, spare batteries, tapes, tripods, etc etc etc.

Tagore in China - Interview

A walk under the belly under the busy road in Shanghai Yan'an a cold night two years ago Bivash led Mukherjee, the man behind Gurudev: A trip to the East, a large amount of documentary information from the obligations over the life of Tagore with China a wonderful discovery that culturally connects China and India a century ago. In an exclusive interview with Closer Inchin , Mukherjee delves into the life, times and influence first Asian Nobel laureate had on Chinese society at that time.

Closer Inchin: Tagore is the most translated poet after Shakespeare foreigners in China today. He continues to inspire modern China. How culturally Tagore's writings affect Chinese society then and now?

Mukherjee: I have no way of confirming that the works of Rabindranath Tagore is the most translated after here the Bard, but I do know that the Chinese, in general, are avid readers of books, magazines, newspapers - anything under the sun.

Tagore came first in China in the summer of 1924. This is an official visit from an invitation of Liang Qichao, a reformer and a Confucian scholar at the time, who headed Beijing's Association conference. But the visit also occurred during one of the most turbulent times in China. The May Fourth Movement, which began in 1919 was in full swing with regular discussions on East and West, modernity against tradition. It was a conflict - sometimes violent - with students and intellectuals leading the way to some extent, shaped the history of modern China. It was also a way of understanding China yes ... why they react as it does - and force instead.
The ensuing clash of ideas and cataclysm marked the beginning of the emergence of the Chinese Communist Party.
Tagore was perceived by many intellectuals as good an opponent of modernity (read Westernization) and defender of traditional values and culture and is met with opposition during his trip. Now we know I was far from true.

Tagore was the man went and saw the best and the worst of both worlds. His view incorporates pan-Asian Best of the West, but was the ethos of much of Asia. Not only India, China or Japan, but united Asia, which it considers could cope with the dictates of the dominant Europeans of the time.
Tagore trip was a classic case of, as a Chinese professor told me, being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The fact that it is still read, discussed and admired, despite the hostility of his trip, says much about the influence of Tagore has been in modern China. They also told me that his books were circling during the Cultural Revolution it offers a semblance of hope during difficult times.

Tagore arrival in China also gave a boost to the new wave poetry / writings was its infancy then. Everyone needs a source of inspiration and Tagore's visit just provided the spark. Xu Zhimo (pictured above with Tagore) is one of the writers are closely associated with Tagore. Then there is also Xie Bingxin. His writings have been included in fact a time - from the 1920s to the 1990s.

In more recent times, it occurs to me Zhao Lihong, who is now vice president of the Shanghai Writers' Association. He has spoken openly about Tagore's influence in his writings.

I hear now that a new generation of translators is working to carry out his complete works in 28 volumes. While his previous works have been translated from English and Hindi, this time the work is original - in Bengali. So, since 1915 or 1916, when it was translated for the first time in China to date 2010 and beyond - which is a good margin, right?

In addition to books and articles, it is encouraging to see that Tagore quoted freely in blogs and internet forums Chinese here. They are essentially young and many of the blogs has to do with matters of the heart or those with a spiritual bent of mind. Many of them also write / talk about the controversy over his visit. I read one blog - back to someone in the past twenties - who wrote that "had to be a foreigner who tell us to preserve our culture against European rule, while fighting each other ..."
I also believe that much of the influence has to do with their Asian-ness. His love for all things natural, including children, spiritualism ... could be identified easily with him. So, yes, it ruled over them and continues ...

Closer Inchin: What was the idea of a Tagore united Korea Asia?
Mukherjee: The doctrine was simple: Asia for Asians. A pan-Asian continent was free of western influence. Tagore had said that Asia needs to find his voice. It was based on a vague notion of universal humanity while upholding the ideals of this. Although the idea was quick to take on, was full of divergent views. The common concept binding was to oppose Western hegemony and to build a synergy of Asia. But Tagore with his views Brahmo Samaj, China, with its Confucian traditions and Japan, with its military power were less likely to find common ground. It was an idealized conception I was doomed to failure.

Worse, it would take them all? While Pan-Asian had a bit of religious spirit and spiritual in India Japan is supposed to be its military power especially after his victory over Russia in the Russo-Japanese. In addition, Japan's expansionist policies in Asia had brutalized China and Korea and Tagore was clearly disappointed by it.
But now that I think of it, the concept of Pan-Asia was probably not totally utopian. If the stories success of today's ASEAN, AFTA and other trade blocs are to be seen, but clearly has worked to propagate the ideas of regionalism. The idea was to develop regional and seems to be working now.

Closer Inchin: What was the League of Crescent Moon and how the influence of China?
Mukherjee: was educated at Cambridge Zhimo Xu and his literary circle of friends who formed an informal dinner and discussion salon name Tagore's book of prose poems of the Crescent Moon. Members generally paid five yuan per month, which allowed them to eat, drink, read, meet, discuss or simply snooker.

Xu wrote some of his thoughts in a poem that begins with the phrase: "There are times when our little patio waves with infinite tenderness. "
Xu lived a quiet life colorful. He finished his primary education at Peking University and traveled to the United States for further studies. Find U.S. "Intolerable," he moved to the University of Cambridge in England in 1920, which is where "love" in English Romantic poetry Keats and Shelley. It was also here in England, first discovered Tagore and sought common ground with other writers later in Asia.
Xu returned to China in 1922 and introduced the new wave of modern poetry that fused elements of romance in Western classical Chinese poetry. Xu, who was the translator Tagore during his official trip to China, took a bit of quiet criticism of his contemporary thinkers dominant theme of love, beauty, energy and contempt by conventional morality.

Tagore stayed in the house twice in Siming Xu Village in Shanghai. That house no longer exists, but there is a plaque on the wall that makes special mention Tagore and Xu and other celebrities who once lived there.
His death at the age of 36 in 1931 in a plane crash - had written earlier accounts of his love by "Flight" - Taken the development of modern Chinese poetry.

Prof. Tan Chung, who was bought by Tagore Santiniketan to establish Cheena Bhavan, said the death of Xu "cut a career of great poetic talent. If he had lived so many of his contemporaries had lived, their role in the history of modern Chinese literature would have been greater than is known. Also: influence on the poetry of Tagore China's new position would have been more pronounced than what is known. "

In Zhimo Xu, Tan writes, there was a mini-version of Tagore.
"Rich, talented, romantic, exposed to progressive ideas, but not submerged in political activities. Not unlike Tagore in his youth, Xu Zhimo had tender feelings for such, he was attracted by the charms of nature, but he knew how to make better material life. Tagore was a potential for China on the way out in its formative stage by misfortune. "

Closer Inchin: What prompted you to make this film Gurudev? Can you describe some of the higher points in his discovery of the relationship between China and India through documentary research?

Mukherjee: It just happened. At first all my research - Internet, books, Library and Archives of Shanghai Shanghai, Chinese blogs - all are managed to write an article on Tagore in Shanghai and China, which I did my job for the Shanghai Daily. I thought about a movie shortly after that. I felt I had enough material to make a very brief - or it may be a video of music - with one of the songs of Tagore. Everything was still blurry in my mind. It was at that time while working on the editing table that I realized that I had material enough for a short documentary. My colleague Qin Xu helped me with translations and establish local meetings with writers and teachers here in Shanghai. Armed with my camera own digital video - the kinds of things to do with tourists from all over - I went to meetings and interviewing people. It worked. Everyone was happy to talk. A good 60 percent of the film is old footage and photos of what was not much more "cinematic" work to boast off. This is a simple, straight narrative. Indeed informative and creative.

For me, the truth, the unveiling of a plaque with the name of a well-known Indian in a small nondescript lane in Shanghai first filled me with - surprise, then wonder and pride. I took it from there. The film is just a small piece of that feeling. A little amateur material, but then again I was not hoping to make money out of it. Stay with me and my friends. I am happy to have deepened into something that was new to me. Facing the 91-year-old translator Yan Wu caused strong emotions. He said he would get up around 4 am and translate a paragraph a day and then live about it all day. I was so happy to see us. For him, it was a recognition from far and greatly appreciated. It was a feeling of satisfaction for him too ...

Inchin Closer: In order to improve India-China ties, we read each other literature. What do we know the literature of others?
Mukherjee: Tagore was well known in China was something that was always out conscious. During one of my trips to the 7 floors of the Shanghai store Fuzhuo Escrow road in 2000, first discovered how much it meant to them Tagore when I saw one of its giant paper cutouts on the wall alongside other literary figures such as Russell Bertnard and Lu Xun, who is considered the father of modern Chinese literature.

Although Tagore has been well recorded here, read and reread and welcome, I would also that the Chinese get to read other known Indian authors as well. RK Narayan, Munshi Premchand come to mind immediately. Somehow I feel that the Chinese need for very well. I asked some of the Chinese here have read any other writers. He shot himself names like VS Naipaul, Salman Rushdie etc, but all they had read in English and Chinese. But again, do not think we have probably read far beyond Lu Xun. At best, we see Sun Tzu are listed more or less from his epic The art of war. That's about it.

Description

The Sony HVR-A1U camcorder captures 1080i HDV images using a newly developed 1/3-inch type, 2.97-megapixel (total) CMOS sensor with new Enhanced Imaging Processor(tm) technology that optimizes the performance of the CMOS sensor. The result is HD quality imaging that has been used to produce television and professional film content. Available at an extremely affordable price, the HVR-A1U will be another powerful option for HD field acquisition by all video professionals.

The HVR-A1U is a compact and lightweight handy-type camcorder, ideal for shooting environments that require mobility. Its size, combined with its long battery life (up to 80 minutes of high-definition recording with the included battery), make it easy to get the shots you need, when you need them. See large image HDV 1080i The HDV 1080i specification features 1080 effective interlaced scanning lines and 1,440 horizontal pixels. Interlaced pictures, which have been common to TV broadcasts from the beginning, alternately display odd and even numbered lines between each screen refresh. The HVR-A1U can also record at the HDV 720p specification, which features 720 effective progressive scanning lines and 1,280 horizontal pixels. Progressive scanning fills both odd and even numbered lines with each refresh, providing a flicker-free picture. Not yet ready for HD? The HVR-A1U can convert material from 1080i down to 480i and output this digital video signal through its i.LINK interface or as analog signals through component, composite, or S-video connectors. When down-converting these signals, the aspect ratio displayed can be converted from 16:9 to 4:3, and display modes can be selected from squeeze, letterbox or edge crop. 1/3-inch Type, 2.97-megapixel CMOS sensor The HVR-A1U incorporates one 1/3-inch type primary color CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) 2.97-megapixel sensor with a formatted for a 4:3 aspect ratio. The advantage of a CMOS sensor over CCD is it's ability to process a large volume of picture data at a very small size, which makes it possible for a camera this size to capture HD video. The trade off for this kind of chip over CCD, however, is a small loss in picture uniformity and dynamic range. Keep an eye on audio levels on the LCD monitor Audio The HVR-A1U adopts the MPEG-2 compression format, which uses 8-bit digital component recording with a sampling rate of 4:2:0. The camera uses MPEG-1 Audio Layer II audio compression format, allowing for two-channel recording with a sampling frequency of 48 kHz/16-bit. It features a built-in stereo microphone, as well as two XLR audio input connectors for use with professional-grade microphones or external audio sources. Each input level for CH1 and CH2 can be independently adjusted using two audio level dials on the camera body and viewed with an audio level meter on the LCD monitor. Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 10x optical zoom lens The HVR-A1U is equipped with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* high definition lens with a 10x zoom function. It has the same optical coating as is used on all of the Carl Zeiss prime lenses, which produces sharp, high-contrast images with virtually no chromatic aberration. In order to facilitate zoom control and recording operation during low-angle shooting, an additional zoom lever has been added to the camera body. There's also a zoom/focus ring located on the lens body that allows for fine adjustments in zoom position. Furthermore, the supplied wireless Remote Commander unit can be used for external control. Large, 16:9 widescreen color viewfinder and LCD monitor View your subject through the built-in viewfinder, the swing-out LCD display, or both. The HVR-A1U features a 0.44-inch type color LCD viewfinder and a 2.7-inch color LCD monitor, both in a 16:9 aspect ratio. You'll save battery time by using just one, but you may want to use one for adjusting focus and the other for monitoring audio levels. When eschewing auto focus for the fine-tuning manual focus, you can double the magnification at the center of the screen, making it easier to confirm focus settings during manual focusing. Also, the camera's "peaking" function can provide sharp outlines on the monitor to help with manual focus. Electronic Super SteadyShot system Sony's electronic Super SteadyShot System helps remove the slight hand jitter and vibration that is often the bane of video production--especially during telephoto shots. It does this by trimming off edges of the frame on the fly to counteract movement. Tele Macro picks up details on subjects from a distance Tele Macro It may seem like a contradiction in terms, but the Tele Macro function allows you to capture a macro image from a distance, which is useful for shooting small moving objects. Additionally, this function puts your subject in proper focus while leaving the background out of focus. The Hollywood look The HVR-A1U has features that can make your videos look more like they were shot on film. Cinematone Gamma allows operators to quickly setup and load a gamma curve with similar contrast characteristics to a film gamma curve. The Cineframe feature allows movement to be reproduced at 24 frames per second--the speed of film--as opposed to video's 30 frames per second standard. No new tape stock The HVR-A1U is compatible with conventional DV tape stock, but Sony recommends the use of DigitalMaster PHDVM-63DM tape, with its dual layer of magnetic material, which delivers higher RF output, lower noise, 95% fewer errors and 60% fewer dropouts compared to regular DV tape. Amazon.com Product Description Small enough to carry around and costing not much more than a top-of-the-line consumer camcorder, the XL1S produces such high-quality results that it is sure to be the top choice for many independent filmmakers who demand full features and controls. Like its predecessor, the XL1, this camera uses three separate 270,000 pixel CCDs (one for each primary color) for the best picture quality. The XL1S records digital audio, with two channels of 16 bit/48 KHz sound or four channels of 12 bit/32 KHz sound. The body is based on a magnesium-alloy frame for maximum durability. It ships with a 16x optical zoom lens with optical image stabilization, but is also compatible with other XL camcorder lenses. With an optional adapter, you can use Canon EF (EOS) still-camera lenses--some of which also feature optical image stabilization. The electronics of the XL1S have many advanced features, including a number of programmed AE modes, as well as both shutter and aperture priority modes. There are two different auto modes, one of which allows you to adjust any setting manually, if you want, and the other, which adjusts every setting automatically and lets you adjust nothing. A spotlight mode automatically compensates for difficulties when shooting a subject bathed in a spotlight. The computer-shooting mode gets rid of monitor flicker that happens when shooting a computer screen. There are also three different shooting modes: normal movie, digital photo, and frame movie. Normal movie mode is for any time you want to shoot video footage. Digital-photo mode records a still image for six seconds on the MiniDV tape and also captures any accompanying audio for a commentary track. The frame movie mode records 30 noninterlaced still images per second, instead of capturing 60 fps interlaced images. This mode isn't intended to be used for shooting video (playback may not look completely smooth). Rather, frame movie mode should be used as a burst, or continuous, shooting mode, like you'd find on a still camera. The XL1S offers many new and updated features over the XL1. There is a 16:9 shooting mode where electronic lines draw are displayed through the viewfinder so you can compose your shots flexibly for later conversion to HDTV, where 16:9 is the standard. SMPTE color bars help establish a proper color reference for shooting and editing. Interval recording lets you shoot time-elapsed motion video with intervals from 30 seconds to 10 minutes. Zebra patterns help you determine overexposed areas in your shot so you can adjust the aperture and shutter accordingly. Digital Video Format and IEEE 1394 The XL1S is a consummate professional creation tool that supports the established industry standards, MiniDV and IEEE 1394. Support of these standards make the XL1S a flexible video creation tool that interoperates with standard DV equipment and computer editing systems as accorded by engineering, scientific and broadcast communities. DV Format Technology and Its Advantages The MiniDV format supported by the XL1S delivers more than 500 lines of horizontal resolution -- a 25% improvement over analog systems. The DV format allows for near lossless transfer within digital editing environments for faster creation, increased productivity and improved production quality of final prints. IEEE 1394 (DV Terminal) The XL1S comes standard with a DV terminal that conforms to IEEE 1394 for digital transfer of video and sound, in addition to regular video and audio outputs. The IEEE 1394 (also known as FireWire®) standard allows editing, copying and recording of digital video over a single cable. This transfer format affords improved image and sound quality and is virtually free from generation loss. The 3 CCD System The XL1S maximizes the capability of the DV format by using a 3 CCD (charge-coupled device) system with a separate CCD for each primary color (red, green, blue). A beam-splitting prism separates light passing through the lens into individual color components and each is sent to its own CCD. Compared to a single CCD, the 3 CCD system achieves outstanding detail with highly accurate color reproduction suitable for the demands of high-end video production - wide dynamic range, low color noise, high-contrast detail, natural color resolution and low-aliasing. The 3 CCD system also makes advanced Pixel Shift (for increased image quality) and Low Light Recording (for increased flexibility) possible. The three CCD image sensors in the XL1S, each with 270,000 pixels, were specifically designed to capture as much image detail as possible and for shooting under extremely low light conditions. The size of each pixel is 72 square microns - 150% larger than the pixel-size on comparable DV models. The result is an approximate 4 dB improvement in sensitivity. This improved sensitivity means that each CCD can capture more information at all light ranges. In super low light, the XL1S still captures crisp and clear digital data. Under extremely bright conditions, the Pixel Shift capabilities of the XL1S greatly reduces vertical white streaks and smears, making it a consummate field recording device for all conditions. Because human eyes see green more clearly and readily, the green component of a video signal contains 60% of the picture detail whereas the red and blue components together comprise the remaining 40%. With the advanced Pixel Shift on the XL1S, the green CCD is physically shifted the equivalent distance of 1/2 pixel horizontally from the red and blue CCD, and the green signal is electronically shifted 1/2 pixel vertically. This shifting of the green CCD increases the sampling points, resulting in a system that is comparable to 410,000 pixel CCD systems in terms of resolution. With a larger pixel size and the process of Pixel Shift, the Canon XL1S gives wider dynamic range, better low light recording, reduced vertical smears, and high quality still images without sacrificing the highest resolution DV available. Audio and Video Inputs and Outputs The XL1S offers a plethora of means by which to get audio and video in and out of the camcorder. The XL1S is designed to handle two types of analog video input and output: using audio/video cables (composite) or S-video. There are four audio inputs and outputs. All connections are on the camera body. Description

Overview:
The Canon XA10 HD Professional Camcorder is a fully featured, ultra-compact pro video camera that shares nearly all the functionality of the XF100, but in an even smaller, run-and-gun form factor. Sporting a 64GB internal flash drive and two SDXC-compatible card slots, the XA10 can record literally for days without running out of memory. Able to capture AVCHD video at bitrates up to 24Mbps, the camcorder's native 1920 x 1080 CMOS sensor also lets you choose 60i, 24p, PF30, and PF24 frame rates for customizing the look of your footage. Bringing further professional oomph to that footage is a Genuine Canon 10x HD video lens, with lowlight sensitivity to f/1.8 and a 35mm equivalent zoom range of 30.4mm-304mm.
Infrared Recording
The XA10 camcorder features an Infrared Mode allowing the capture of video in conditions with little to no ambient light, a situation which would make other camcorders useless. It does so by removing the infrared cutoff filter from the optical path. Its specially designed lens coating allows the infrared light to pass through to the image sensor. Additionally, the XA10 features an infrared emitter with a diffuser to shoot pleasing infrared imagery even in complete darkness. For nature videographers or law enforcement users, the benefits of a compact, high performance camcorder for shooting in such conditions is obvious. Without the need to add lights, the shooter may remain hidden from their subjects. Also, the XA10 gives the option of recording in green or white light mode.
