Plasma Television Buying Guide
Introduction
In six short sections, we will help guide you towards making informed decisions about buy plasma TV that you need for your home theater or living room, the application of fair business and consumer sales, or executives and corporate boards.
The sections of this guide is organized into a purchase order and progression that seems more useful in the dissemination of key information for a plasma TV purchase. First, let's take a look at the kind of environment that will shape the plasma. Then let's see what kind of content you intend to watch TV and what kind of A / V devices you'll use to determine the type of plasma for your needs. So let's check out major plasma sheet you should know about installation issues and pay attention. Finally, let's take a look at the prices and other cost issues that you may want regard.
Ready? Let's begin.
Environment plasma TV
Calculating the correct distance in shaping the environment for your plasma TV, a primary consideration is to determine the screen size to match the plane or the space where the plasma display.
Monitors plasma are measured diagonally across the screen, like any other television. You can usually choose between the following sizes: 32 ", 40", 42 "46", 50 ", 61" or 63 ". Bigger is not always better and should keep some distance between plasma TV and area display for optimal viewing experience. Sitting far away diminishes the overall impact. Sitting nearby, however, could also submit their own problems, such as when you start seeing "the screen of the structure", ie points or pixels that make up the plasma display. The right distance depends the size of your TV.
- For 32 "to 37" televisions, 6 to 10 feet from the screen is necessary.
- For 42 "to 46 is necessary televisions, 10 to 14 feet away from the screen.
- For 50 "TV, it takes 12 to 16 feet away from the screen.
- For 60 "and larger TVs, so least 15 feet of screen space needed.
In determining the appropriate TV size for you, you should also consider the space required to install the unit itself. When recessing a unit of plasma, allow at least 3 inches of open space in the top of the unit and adequate ventilation space at least 2 inches behind it as well. Remember, too, that most plasma displays do not have built-in speakers, so you'll have to make room enough to connect the speakers.
Viewing Angles: More on the TV viewing angle of placement is another factor that affects vision experience. Today's plasma TVs offer viewing angles approaching (and sometimes exceeding) 170 degrees. This is much better than viewing angles for displays LCD and rear projection TVs, and wide viewing angles for plasma displays is translated into a bright, clear to any person in the room, no matter where you sit.
Room lighting and illumination of television images is also important in the area on your TV plasma is established. Plasma TVs generally do a good job in rooms with normal indoor lighting, but optimal viewing may not be possible in areas with direct sunlight too. Thus, windows that let in direct sunlight should have easily adjustable blinds or curtains that can eliminate reflections screen. The light from a window behind the TV also makes it difficult for the eyes to adjust brightness of the screen itself, and window treatments recommended in these cases. A bit of controlled background lighting could also be useful, as the background light gives the black portions of the image darker deeper look.
Altitude can increase levels of noise if you live in Denver, Santa Fe or other areas above 6,000 feet, be aware that some plasma displays may begin to show the operating noise. This is due to increased pressure on the gases contained in the plasma glass substrate, a phenomenon that makes the unit work more difficult to cool the display element. Check if the manufacturer has an index of the maximum altitude of whether you are setting up the plasma in high elevation areas.
What you see on the plasma TV
You can choose between HDTV (High Definition TV) and EDTV (Enhanced Definition TV) for display choice plasma. What you prefer depends on the type of material that the intention of seeing in the plasma.
EDTV is the perfect entry point to digital television wide screen 16:9 format and image resolution that is 200% better than today's analog televisions. On the other hand, HDTV has up to four times the resolution and colors compared to EDTV, offering the visual experience and final sound.
Currently, only a limited number of programs are broadcast in a high definition format (all major networks broadcast HD counterparts to their regular analog broadcast signal). In fact, if you plan use a plasma HDTV for regular TV programming, you may be surprised to find that regular TV programming may even appear a bit worse, as the big screen exaggerates the flaws in standard TV programs. DVD images from most DVD titles currently available in the market today also are not doing so well in a high definition plasmas. In fact, these DVD images appear better on EDTV plasma units, because the resolution Image of a widescreen DVD (nominally 740 x 480) is more compatible with the actual resolution (852 x 480) of the EDTV plasma display.
Why bother with a HD TV at all, you ask? Because HDTV, paired with a real source of high quality or high definition, can produce images truly impressive. With a progressive scan player DVD paired with, for example, none of the recently released HD-DVD or forthcoming Blu-ray DVD titles (encoded in true high definition format), the plasma HDTV can come to life and reveal spectacular image quality unmatched. And as television programming most are available in high definition format with the impending FCC deadline for switching to all digital broadcasting, HDTV plasma televisions will have more TV content to display. One thing is for sure your HDTV does not become obsolete anytime in the coming years.
Devices your plasma TV
With models of plasma televisions today, almost all have multiple entry connecting various devices, with 32 "or larger screens that inputs for connecting six or more A different components A / V Component video What do you have now, and has no plans to add in the future?
At the very least, you'll probably want to connect your antenna or cable box, plus a DVD player and maybe a video player. Other possibilities include a satellite TV receiver, video game system, or TiVo hard disk recorder. And if you use a camera video, you definitely want a set of front panel A / V inputs on your new TV.
The new plasma TVs include digital inputs such such as HDMI or DVI, which can accept HDTV signals from your cable or satellite box (and even some DVD players) in an all-digital format. Some plasma TVs also include a VGA or DVI PC input, which allows your plasma unit to pull double duty as a PC monitor.
Connection point: If the path video signals through your home theater receiver, you can connect video sources further. Most home theater receivers offer tickets video and composite video outputs to allow the change, it is easy to choose from among their video sources. If yours does, you may be able to connect your video components to your receiver, which then send the selected video signal to your TV. Many receivers have S-Video connections as well, and some also include components video switching.
Plasma TV Specifications When comparing plasma TVs, it is important to know what to look for to make sense of the specifications you're presented. Below is a quick summary of the necessary specifications that must weigh before making that all important buying decisions.
Resolution: Resolution is a determining factor in selecting a plasma TV. Do you want HDTV or EDTV? HDTV, with a resolution of at least 1024 x 720, is the visual experience and final sound, but what is available for viewing in high definition is currently limited to a few channels in HD cable and the emerging DVD titles and necessarily some of the HD-DVD and Blu-ray DVD formats. Moreover, the majority of DVDs available now actually play better when viewed on EDTV, because the image resolution of a widescreen DVD (nominally 740 x 480) is more compatible with the actual resolution (852 x 480) of the EDTV plasma display. Choose the type of plasma TV you want, therefore, is an issue that must be considered along with the content type to do with frequency or viewing in the plasma.
Entries: a plasma TV should work with any existing standard component video A / V, S-Video, or component video outputs. In addition, most plasma TVs have DVI or HDMI connections for use with HD sources. Some Plasma TVs also have VGA input connections that allow them to be used as PC monitors. At a minimum, the following specifications for a connection Plasma: DVI-I or DVI-D, component or composite RCA and S-Video. Consider the set-up existing components, such as its satellite, cable, DVD player, music and external components and see what kind of inputs or connectors they use.
Tuner: Check your plasma to see if it is HD-ready or HD-integrated. A television HD-Ready Plasma is essentially a monitor that needs an external tuner source before it can function as a TV. A panel has an integrated HD tuner integrated in the set and is ready for use. If you get your HDTV programming via cable or satellite instead of over-the-air, you may not need a tuner all, as you will be using the set-top boxes provided by cable or satellite service to receive HDTV programming. Check with your cable or satellite providers for details. Some cable / satellite companies to end the set-top boxes and provide their subscribers with cable cards instead. Check with your cable or supplier satellite if they offer cable cards and cable-card type offering, and then check the specification on the plasma for cable card slots.
Contrast Ratio: Contrast ratio is the measure that determines the variation between the most white and the darker the image. This is an important specification, as plasma TVs with a low contrast ratio will make dark images look muddy and gray, while light images look washed out. A good measure Contrast ratio is 1000:1 or higher. Anything less than 1,000:1 especially in a package that is 42 "or more can not provide a visual experience optimal.
Brightness: Without sufficient brightness, your image will look muddy and soft, even in a dark room. Viewing distance, size of the screen, and ambient light will also affect the need for more brightness capability. A brightness rating listed at 550 cd/m2 or higher is good, but not stuck with the number of technicians in the list. Instead, make sure the screen is bright enough for your needs as you conduct your own visual inspection.
Panel Life: Look for a minimum of 60,000 hours of life in their plasma panel specifications. This is the recommendation on the time it would take before his group has half the brightness compared to when new. A specification of 60,000 hours translates into about 20 years of watching 8 hours a day. (This approximation may vary depending on source and type of content, values, environment, and use your plasma TV.)
Anti-burn-in/Pixel Shift: Burn-in refers to the charred remains on the screen after a static image is left in the plasma over a long period of time. To minimize or prevent burns to determine if the plasma panel used in fire protection, such as power management settings, full-time image pixel shift (both vertical and horizontal) technologies, or functions of automatic screen saver.
Speakers: If you plan to use an external surround sound system, not necessary audio speakers, but most plasma TV sets include speakers that rated anywhere Watts 7.12 pre-amplifier that is much better than conventional televisions and sufficient for most viewing. Check the specifications of your plasma to see if it comes with speakers and if the speakers are removable.
Universal Remote Control: Universal remote control can take the place of having a single remote, so that controls all the various components of your system television, such as DVD player, audio, cable / satellite etc. If you plan to buy a universal remote control, check if it is supported by the plasma set of your choice for sure the plasma accepts universal remote control devices.
Power consumption: Energy consumption for plasmas range from 240 watts to more than 500 watts, If you're concerned with how much energy a plasma set may use, see the specifications for power consumption. Units tend to have higher power requirements with increasing the screen. A good rule of thumb is to compare similar-sized units together, units with greater powers components tend to use less as a rule.
Installation and mounting options
There are basically two options for installation of a plasma TV: Seeing a desk stand, car, or similar equivalent horizontal surface, or hang the plasma TV (in a wall or ceiling, using accessories wall mounting).
One of the main advantages of plasma TVs is the flexibility of mounting and installation options that are available. However, due to the large size of the TV, installation presents its own set of problems that must be taken into account.
For the wall (or ceiling) mounting, it takes two people (ideally), with at least one with enough experience to determine the strength of the wall, behind the wall, and the appropriate hardware for used, for example, anchors, screws, etc. The last thing we need is that their new plasma TV wall fall and break into pieces, because evil wall mounting. Installation professional is highly recommended in this case.
Below are several television mounting options you might consider:
Chart Stands are popular for plasma display units. These units, however, are not one size fits all appliances. Sometimes one is included with the TV itself, other Sometimes you have to buy the stand separately. Most plasma TVs come-oriented consumers with its own stand-table, used whenever there is sufficient space on the tabletop to support the TV. These units are custom-made according to manufacturers specifications as each plasma display has its own requirements on how the position fits the plasma. The desk stand allows for maximum flexibility, as nothing is permanently fixed to the wall. (Add graphic)
Plasma TV Carts are typically used in business applications for trade shows and presentations at home. Table carts are often used in a courtroom setting or to mobilize to the edge of a boardroom table for maximum visual presentation. The shopping table may include a platform for placing a DVD player, laptop, or VCR. (Add graphic)
Flat Wall Mounts maximize the space saving benefits of plasma technology. This is generally the least expensive option, adding two inches to the total depth of the plasma unit. It is used in home theaters, living rooms, boardrooms or the company to achieve and make the most of the sleek look that plasma displays are known for. (Add graphic)
Tilt Wall Mounts allows place your plasma TV above the eye, keeping the unit out of the way but allowing it to be easily visible from anywhere in the room. A wall Tilt support normally allow 15 to 20 degrees tilt (depending on the brand of wall bracket). This option is often used to install screens plasma above the fireplace and bedrooms, and is also used for air shows in the retail trade or industry (with or without an attached ceiling mount). The tilt wall bracket adds 4 to 6 inches to the depth of the screen installed. (Add graphic)
Articulating Wall Mounts the use of swivel arms to render the plasma unit flush with the wall and out of the way when the unit is in use. They retreated, this mounting device allows you to rotate the screen 120 degrees to each side and up to 10 degrees up or down. Add 3 or 4 inches of mounting depth in plasma (according to the manufacturer of the wall mount) and is used for maximum flexibility in bars, library studies, and operations of the exhibition. (Add graphic)
Stands Ceiling allow you to mount your plasma TV where you want that if a wall is not available. This option is generally coupled with a tilt mount, so the display can be adjusted downward for easier viewing. Lengths of ceiling mount poles vary according to customer needs, but lengths Standard are 24 to 43 inches. Ceiling mounts are usually used to show airports, cash registers, hospital rooms, and bedrooms. (Add graphic)
Pricing and other expenses
Plasma TVs are expensive, but they do fall into a few categories. Below is a rough guide to retail prices and online plasma units (current time of this writing, May 2006).
- $ 1,000 to $ 1,500 buys a plasma TV Up to 42 "
- $ 1,500 to $ 3,000 buys a plasma TV up to 50 "
- More than $ 3,000 to buy a plasma 65 "
Plus: - $ 1,500 buys a refurbished plasma EDTV
- Under $ 2,000 buys you a plasma EDTV
- More than $ 2000 you bought a high definition plasma
Besides the cost of the plasma TV itself, you may want to factor in the price of accessories such as cables, surge protectors, audio additional furniture and room treatments to achieve a true cost outlay for the purchase of plasma.
Finally, consider the "standard" charges that apply to your purchase: a sales tax when the TV is bought in a brick and mortar establishment, the shipping costs (especially if the TV is bought online), and the delivery and / or making charges. Check and compare manufacturer's warranties for different brands of plasma TVs, extended warranties are always more.

AT&T has upgraded the software of its nationwide mobile broadband network with HSPA+ which, with enhanced backhaul, enables speeds up to 4x faster than AT&T's already fast mobile broadband speeds. And now, AT&T is evolving to even faster 4G speeds with the launch of AT&T's 4G LTE technology in select markets. Backhaul is one of the major pieces of a telecommunications network. For pedestrians, this includes shortcuts through parks and pedestrian-only zones for over 100 cities around the world as well as 6,000 3D landmarks in over 200 cities to help you find exactly where you are. Unique Hybrid Technology Ovi Maps is built on an advanced technology called hybrid vector maps. Vector maps are high quality but less data intensive and allow you to continue to navigate even if you lose your network connection. This means that maps downloaded or updated across a network connection are about half the size of bulky bitmaps used by other mobile map providers. The hybrid technology ensures that, unlike other providers, any downloaded map data is stored on the device for future use. No Network Connection Required When Navigating Avoid expensive, battery-draining network connections with Nokia's unique hybrid technology. Maps can be pre-loaded on to your Nokia smartphone so you can set Ovi Maps to offline mode, saving battery power, and the navigation system will still work. This is particularly useful for those worried about data connection costs when travelling abroad or when you are travelling through areas with little or no network coverage. Best Global Coverage You take your mobile with you wherever you go in the world so, as standard, voice guided navigation for both pedestrians and drivers is available for 74 countries in 46 different languages and there are maps for over 180 countries. This gives you the best maps with the largest global coverage for free. Features

Vector maps are high quality but less data intensive, and allow you to continue to navigate even if you lose your network connection. This is particularly useful for those worried about data connection costs when travelling abroad, or when you are travelling through areas with little or no network coverage. Best Global Coverage You take your mobile with you wherever you go in the world so, as standard, voice guided navigation for both pedestrians and drivers is available for 74 countries in 46 different languages and there are maps for over 180 countries. No additional licenses needed for extra countries, regions, or services like traffic information or city guides. Data charges from network operators may apply. Voice Guidance and Traffic Information Turn-by-turn, voice guided navigation comes free for both drivers and pedestrians. For drivers this includes lane assistance, traffic information, safety camera, and speed warnings. Vector maps are high quality but less data intensive, and allow you to continue to navigate even if you lose your network connection. This is particularly useful for those worried about data connection costs when travelling abroad, or when travelling through areas with little or no network coverage. Best Global Coverage You take your mobile with you wherever you go in the world so, as standard, voice guided navigation for both pedestrians and drivers is available for 74 countries in 46 different languages, and there are maps for over 180 countries. This gives you the best maps with the largest global coverage for free. Features
