How I Convert My Videos to HD
Recommendations for software for new camcorder?
I am going to get a Canon Vixia HV30 camcorder and i heard that it is tough to edit videos or find software that is good to use. I do not have a mac or macbook or any type of apple computer. I have a windows vista computer and laptop and I need recommendations for programs or software that I could use to edit videos i make so that i can put them up on youtube. Thanks!!
Im not quite sure about the details of what kind of laptop i have so i here are some things i can find…. Its an Acer laptop.. it says extensa 5620-6830. windows vista…i dont see any firewire ports and im not sure what this thing on the side does (it has a little thing that you press and then pops out then push it in again and this card thing pops out.)it has 4 usb ports
The Canon HV30 is a miniDV tape based camcorder that record to DV and HDV format to miniDV tape. To import this high quality video to your computer you MUST use a firewire cable to connect the DV port of the camcorder to the firewire port on your computer.
You did not tell us which computer. If your computer does not have a firewire port, hopefully it has an available expansion slot so you can add one. IF your laptop has a PCMCIA slot, firewire cards are cheap. If your computer has an ExpressCard slot, they are not so cheap. If your laptop has no available expansion slot, USB will not work – USB-firewire/adapter/hub/cable/converter things will not work.
The DV port on ALL miniDV tape based computers is alwas 4-pin. The other side of the firewire cable can be 4-pin, 6-pin or 9-pin – but that depends on the computer’s firewire port.
Firewire, DV, IEEE1394 and i.LINK are all the same thing in this context and they are not USB.
You did not tell us which version of Windows Vista. The Pro/Business edition includes a version of MovieMaker that can deal with HDV. Other versions cannot deal with HDV. Otherwise, Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere float to the top and can be purchased.
