What is a good camera/camcorder combination?
Alright, so keep in mind, I know absolutely NOTHING about technology, so please explain answers in detail! 
I’m looking for a digital camera that can like…morph into a camcorder. You know, do a little twist and a turn, flip out the screen and bam! It turns from a camera into a camcorder. I just want to know what the best ones are for my money. I’m looking to spend only up to $400 (I know, kinda cheap for something so intricate, but what can I say, I’m a college student). Sites and reviews would be very helpful!

Funny question, but it’s a smart concept.
For the digital camera part I guess you mean those small compact ones with built-in objective, the ones we all know. For the camcorder you just need something able to film without limit in time and with good enough image size and video codec quality. It’s got to be compact but still have lots of storage space for videos – you need one that supports secure digital SDHC up to lots of gigabytes.
I was looking for the same thing so I went for the Sanyo Xacti, they are so small like most digicams and have different models from $100 up to $500 with a good bunch of high definition models within your budget. Their base is just as big as a cell phone, the objective sticking out a little, they weight the same as a digicam if not lighter (more like a cellphone actually). I bought a rather cheap model (CG-9) and the videos were quite good for standard VGA, the 9mpix photostills looked just brilliant for a $150 camera that fit in any pocket. I searched a lot online about compact camcorders and can assure the cheaper and mid-priced Xacti’s are a great deal and you can’t find many other good and compact camcorders but I haven’t tried or compared the higher end HD in the $400-$500 range. Maybe they’re super awesome as well.
But why should you have to flip twist turn the camera like a transformer to make it a camcorder when it can do both in the same shape??
