Digital Camera Camcorder

Digital Camera Camcorder

Regarding the level of consumer HD camcorder, look no further than Canon models. At the time of writing, the Canon VIXIA HF200 is one of the best HD video cameras on the market. It records high definition video directly to a flash memory card and has a very impressive feature set.

The Canon VIXIA HF200 is a small compact camera, measuring 2.4 x 2.8 x 4.9 inches and weights only 13.9 ounces. To preview shots, is 2.7 inch LCD screen that can rotate at various angles. All control buttons are conveniently established. It has a good grip on most controls are easy access with one hand.

The Canon VIXIA HF200 comes with a 3.89MP image sensor and a 15x optical zoom. It can record HD movies at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 at 24Mbps. During recording, Canon, the integrated optical stabilization helps produce very stable vaccines. It also comes with a slew of other features such as auto focus, Face Detections, a 24p Cinema Mode (for creating a cinema-like movie), 30p (mode for shooting fast action scenes) and many more.

Most importantly, the quality of HD movies recorded with the Canon VIXIA HF200 is amazing. Given the size of the lens, video were surprisingly crisp and sharp. The camera focuses very quickly, even in darker lighting conditions. The audio quality of the videos also was quite good. Currently, the Canon VIXIA HF200 retails for around $ 599 each. It's a bit more expensive than usual, but the premium is a small price to pay to have into account the excellent video quality and overall performance.

What should I buy a digital camera or camcorder?

Hello, I'm in a bit of a problem here, what should I buy? A digital camera or camcorder, so I like taking videos and pictures, what you suggest? I know that digital cameras can take high quality videos, but camcorders can capture an image of good quality? Please, if you suggest a product, please keep it under 400 € (or 580 $ / lb 359british) Thank you.

Most consumer digital cameras can not take very good quality videos and most consumer-grade camcorders can capture images of good quality. While many camcorders are shooting to say, 5 mega pixel images. And some digital cameras can record video at 640 x 480, which is not too bad for YouTube, etc. I have the camera in the link below. Take stunning images and video is good for my use. It is only in standard definition. But I have video cameras high definition I use to for the video. It's one of those things you have to decide what is most important to you, high quality images or high quality video.

Great Battery

by MattTheCzar from on 2010-09-05
This product works just as well as the canon nb-6l battery that came with my Canon s90.

It holds its charge for the same amount of time as the Canon battery, charges in the same amount of time as the Canon battery, and for a fraction of the price, this product is a steal.

I always carry my spare, and I use it all of the time.

Definitely a must have!

Great cheap battery

by Nicholas Sushkin from on 2010-09-03
Yup, it works. Not a dud at all. Bought two of them for the price of half of the original battery and used them on a long trip.

Couldn't be more pleased..

by John Crane from on 2010-08-29
I've only had the battery for about a month, but it's surpassed my expectations so far.. I took it on a trip to Korea (South..) as a back up. The specs for the camera (Canon SD1200IS) said it could take like 250 pics with one battery charge. Well I got up to 390 pics and the battery meter was just starting to waiver between full and 2/3 bars. I went to change batteries anyway as the majority of the trip was over, and I realized I had this battery in all along and not the supplied Canon battery. Oh, and probably took 5-6 videos of about 1 minute as well as the 390 pics.

Poor quality

by Joe Milton from Hillsboro, OR USA on 2010-08-27
I ordered this battery for my Canon S90, but when I tried to insert it it would not go in all the way. So I examined it next to my genuine Canon battery and it appeared to be identical. So I fiddled with it some more and discovered that the top of the battery was loose and wobbly, so if I pressed on it to straighten it out, THEN it inserted into the camera. Obviously it's a cheap knockoff from some sweatshop factory. Once it was in the camera it seemed to work fine, but you definitely get what you pay for regarding batteries.

Good OEM battery for the S90

by Arun from on 2010-08-26
I don't know why anyone would pay 5 times as much for the Canon battery. I bought two of these as spares and they work fine.

They are not as well finished as the original, but seem to work fine.

Camera Bag for Digital Video Camera

Handy little bag in a just-right size

Nifty bag, sized right to hold both my compact digital cameras plus all the accessories (batteries, memory cards, battery charger) I need to carry. Great value!

Camera Bag

by Annette from Spokane, Washington on 2009-12-16
I ended up returning this item, as I found it to be too small for my camera and accessories. However, it is a well made bag, I just did not measure it well enough. The item is what it says, made for a certain video camera. I have purchased a larger one from the same company and am very happy with it.

Great small bag for Flip UltraHD

by B. Walker from Wisconsin, United States on 2009-12-15
I purchased this particular Lowepro bag because I was unhappy with the less than protective options that Flip/Amazon recommended. I spent a lot of time paging through the Lowepro camera bags to make sure the UltraHD would fit inside it - most of the bags you'd assume would work are at least an inch or so too small. This was the smallest bag I found that would fit the video camera and provide extra space for accessories.

There are compartments in the main area of the bag (mesh pockets) that will work for the small tripod, the extra battery pack and the computer connection cords. The front of the bag also has a pocket that works well for keeping backup AA batteries.

The bag itself is very sturdy-feeling, from the fabric used to the zippers and carrying straps. I'm very pleased with the bag and even more pleased that Lowepro bags come in a wide range of prices that make this very affordable (and it's worth the money!).

I highly recommend not just this particular bag, but Lowepro bags in general.

wrong suggestion by amazon

by Corina Pena Gregori from on 2010-08-29
Hello,
I am an old time and happy client of Amazon.
Although this is not a complaint in itself, and believe it's not an error on the part of amazon, I do think it should be considered.
I am very happy with the outcome of my last order, except that I ordered the wrong battery for the camera.
I did this following a suggestion about adding a battery to my order, which was on the same page when confirming the order for the camera and other items.
I did wanted the extra battery, it's just that I ordered the wrong model (and in turn the wrong battery charger) being suggested by the mentioned page. SEE ITEM MODELS BELOW.
I corrected this yesterday, ordering the right battery and charger.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Regards,
enrique

Maximal Power FC600 OLY LI-50/50B Rapid Travel Charger for Olympus Battery (Silver)

No good from the seller

by fred from on 2010-08-24
This battery was faulty when it arrived. It wouldn't accept a charge either in the camera or in an external charger. At $7 it's hardly worth it to return it -- which is probably what the seller is counting on.

Wrong Battery

by ROC from on 2010-07-28
I am very upset with the batteries, because I took the kit "Frequently Bought Together", I thought, if Amazon offers the kit: Camera + Case + Battery, the battery belongs to this camera but NO!!! the battery for this camera is different!! and I bought 3!!!
The battery of this kit is LI-50B and the battery for the Camera Olympus Stylus 7040 is LI-42B.

Didn't need it

by JAYNESS the Great from on 2010-07-26
Since my camera didn't come with a stand-alone charger, I didn't really need an extra battery, but hell, I've got one if I need it.

Fabulous for Family

by Mae Husted from on 2010-09-07
I LOVE this product. I am a very busy Mom with very busy kids. I took the camcorder out of the package and had it working in less than 5 minutes. It's so easy to use, my 5 yeara old does self-recordings with it! Great product, great size, and great price. File transfer is super easy too. I have recommended this to friends and they have purchased it also.

Shaky Video

by Dutch from Nebraska on 2010-08-30
The Flip is a wonderful camera -- easy to use, extremely portable with good-looking video. The big problem is shaky video. It's impossible to hold the camera still for more than a few seconds. I've solved the problem with a pocket-sized gizmo called the readysteady. I got it online.

Lightweight, Durable, VERY easy to operate, vivid pictures

by Lacey B. from Austin, TX on 2010-08-30
The camera is what to be expected, good quality for the price. We took it snorkeling on two seperate occasions once in the Carribean and once off the coast of Mexico and also to a waterpark using the underwater case that is available to purchase. I love that it easily holds 2 hours of video, pretty good quality, I love that it so easy to connect to your computer. We have had it for a long time and still have not changed the batteries, which is amazing!

Its a great camera for younger kids and teenagers who like capturing video. We use the Flip Video software and capture frame-by-frame photos from the videos once we download them to our computers, which is a great feature; however, the quality for these captured photos are not the same as you would get from a nice digital camera but still, really good. I think its a great price & good value!

Worth the Extra money!!!

by Anchorage Alaska from maryland on 2010-09-07
I have a canon g9 which is an easy to use medium size camera. It takes great pictures near or far and as long as you keep the digital zoom off. It is a phenomenally stable good quality camera. One problem the battery... They go bad. I had the original camera battery for two years (I bought it while stationed in AK). It worked great, but it started going bad so I bought two non-Canon batteries to replace the original, they were horrible! They only lasted for 9 months and wouldn't hold a charge; I couldn't take more than maybe 5-20 pictures without discharging them fully it was ridiculous. So I bought two Canon replacement batteries. They work great they were 4 times as expensive, but I took 200 photos and filmed a 7 minute movie (Wedding) with one battery I just find it hard to believe that the name brand batteries are that much better but they are. So don't waste your money on the cheap batteries if you have the money spend it on the name brand batteries.

Canon vs.Other Brand for Canon EOS

by David Leach from on 2010-08-20
I am an amateur photographer and have done a few weddings for friends and I do have to say I prefer the Canon battery over other generic batteries for this EOS camera. I can take about 600-700 photographs with this battery, while a few batteries I got from a secondary company lasted only 100-150 shots and not to mention they threw off my timing with my 430EX flash. I definitely recommend the Canon NB-2LH for Canon original equipment. These batteries have served me well in outdoor photography in Alaska, Hawaii and in the Caribbean, as well as, special event portraits. My recommendation in always to have two batteries. I personally have had my original battery from canon for over three years and it has taken over 10,000 photographs and still going strong.

Replacement battery for Canon Digital Rebel.

by VTJeff99 from on 2010-08-10
A few years ago, I bought a cheap generic replacement battery for my Digital Rebel.

Big mistake, now it won't take a charge.

So I bought a replacement Canon NB-2LH. Battery charged great and works perfectly.

Battery arrived on time and perfect working order.

Would definitely do business with them again..

Really Good Battery! It's A Die-Hard!

by Michael L. Williams from on 2010-08-04
I'm a professional photographer and have to have good batteries. All the shots in my book, A Simple Guide To Fabulous Photography (link attached), were taken with this battery. I take a lot of shots and carry two spare batteries. I tried one of the cheap off-brand replacement batteries, and advise against it. They don't last or perform nearly as good as this Canon original. Well worth the extra money to get this one.A Simple Guide To Fabulous Photography

Not the real deal but works.

by jmusicgirl from on 2010-07-30
I own a real and original Canon battery like this I purchased, except it is real! The orginal Canon battery will have the codes and description of the battery etched in the plastic battery casing and will be made in Japan. These batteries have the codes and descriptions printed in ink on the plastic casing (which rub right off) and are made in China. Now, I will admit that I have not had any problems with the batteries I purchased here, yet. As far as this vendor, they were very nice and curteous.
You get what you pay for. The real deal is going to cost you more, so it is up to you if price is the determining factor or if you want the real deal.

Better than the Flip!

by m0ngr31 from on 2010-09-09
All of my sisters have a Flip, and I haven't been that impressed, so I figured I'd try the PlaySport. I've loved this thing! The first place I used it was at a waterpark and it goes underwater just fine! HD looks good on my 46" 1080p TV.

Pros:
-Build quality seems solid
-Waterproof!
-Uses SD cards for storage
-No USB switchblade that breaks easily like the Flips
-Good HD picture

Cons:
-Screen scratches fairly easily. I had it in my pockets for a few minutes with my keys and it got a few small scratches
-Picture quality isn't the best. Only 5MP, but I have an older camera that takes much better pictures at 5MP than this does
-Doesn't do really great in low-light situations, but I've seen worse.

Worth the money though. Best device on the market in this price range. Much better than the FlipVideo IMHO.

Perfect for On-The-Go!

by ChrisAnn4 from on 2010-09-08
This is the perfect camera for on-the go and is about the size of a cell phone. Fits perfectly in my purse! So easy to operate. My 4-year-old can even use it! HD video is amazing. Outdoor quality is FANTASTIC! Even the still shots are great outside. Only complaint would be the dark pics/video inside b/c there is no flash (I guess that is what my digital SLR is for!) For the price, and DURABILITY, it's fantastic! Love that you can add your own memory and it's not internal like the "Flip". I've had two other friends buy one after seeing mine.

So fa so good

by Stacy S. Hahn from Durango, CO on 2010-09-07
We recently purchased this camera and I have to say it's been really fun to use. We have had no problems with it so far. It just takes awhile to get used to the small size. You can't move it quickly or the picture jumps around. My kids took it under water and it worked great.

Kodak PlaySport handheld video camera

by E. ONeill from Dubuque, IA on 2010-09-07
This unit is well constructed and significantly smaller than the previous Zi-6 and Zi-8 cameras.
The battery and SDHC changes easily and the settings options on the camera are clear cut.
I wish that minutes of battery usage left could be displayed like they are on the larger camcorders.
Another nice feature would be total percentage of space used on the SDHC. Overall, I have tested
the video during boating, fly fishing and other action sports and it has functioned well. I would recommed this
product for anyone who travels or engages in water sporting activites.

Zoom is Worthless

by F. Kirschbaum from Wayne, PA on 2010-09-07
The still pictures are terrible and the digital zoom is horrific. I bought to capture a few trips to the water park. It did that okay. The lack of a quality zoom is huge deterrent.

a best buy!

by Chef Greg Munoz from The Woodlands,Tx on 2010-07-26
I was attempting to disassemble a regular tripod and remove the swivel head to glue onto my current monopod when I had the notion to explore Amazon for a simplier solution..and Vola!! I found this little jem..I have this mounted in my Native Ultimate kayak now so I can take video of paddling trips, fishing trips and the like..with a little rigging done to hold the monopod in place on the kayak...it does the job well.. On land it makes a great walking stick and tripod for a guy with a gimpy right leg. It is well worth the money I paidh for it and gets used alot as I spend a fair amount of time on the water or out in the field..This is NOT some cheap flimsy unit either.. it is well constructed so to me ..its BEST BUY..

You get what you pay for

by Claire Jordan from New Orleans, LA on 2009-05-11
The head is such cheap plastic that when you pan it sticks as the cheap, uneven plastic rubs on other cheap uneven, plastic. If you cinch the panning handle down to the point where it locks, it feels as though it's going to break off in your hand. The little piece that is supposed to help stabilize the bottom just flops around, getting in the way. If you need a monopod but aren't yet ready to buy a professional one (this is my situation) using this one will be a excellent motivator to do the research to find a pro one at a good price.

Kodak Zi8 Worth the money? Yes it is.....

by CheapGeek from on 2010-09-06
This is not a 4000.00 camcorder.
It's a pocket camcorder.
Good points
Shoots in HD
Editing software comes preloaded in camera.
Has Macro mode.
Good color balance.
Has more controls than just one big red button.
Image stabilization.
Looks good, feels good in the hand.
Standard tripod screw hole. 1/4" 20 thread pitch.
Digital zoom, which is better than nothing.
Works fantastic on a tripod.
Easy video upload to the internets. Yes I added an "S" to internet.
SD Card up to 32 GB.
Here's the best feature- IT HAS AN EXTERNAL MICROPHONE JACK!
You could actually use this for more than just stupid movie clips.
Caveat-Kodak is releasing a newer version of this camera that is about 1/2 as thick and about 1/2 as small.
You Will carry that camera every where.
Bad Point
The video is not as good as a $4000.00 camera.
But it's not a $4000.00 camera now is it?
It's dam* good for the money.
I would recommend it.

Kodak IZ8

by eric Chun from AUBURN, CA, US on 2010-09-05
I like the Kodak IZ8. Its worked out great in the studio to be able to connect studio grade mics and pres for great audio... pictures clear
on both 720p and 1080.. and the flexability to connect with USB and HDMI and RCA out very nice... I use both a stand up tripod, a home manufactured pole for horizontal and vertical stand up and a spyder small tripod for field... For the price and flexability, a great buy. It is what it is... Im a little nervous using the mic input with the wear and tear on the small 1/8" adapter. The mics we use are all studio industry level xlr out so care has to be used when connecting the adapters to the mic in jack...also be aware of using the zoom in when indoor shooting and lighting is an issue... the light can change with the zoom and affect the picture.... otherwise a great buy for the dollar !

THECHNICALLY, it's a camcorder...

by Anna from on 2010-08-31
So technically this IS a camcorder, however, I was greatly disappointed on many fronts - which I will address.

Firstly, I am a stay-at-home mom and I think that the way in which I was hoping to use this camera is the way that 90% of consumers will be using it. I wanted something that I could carry around and use to take quick videos of the kids and occasional pictures so that I would NOT have to carry around a separate small digital camera. I wasn't expecting it to be like an $800 camera or anything, just simple and easy. Here are my issues:

Camcorder - It is a camcorder in the sense that it CAN take videos. HOWEVER, you have VERY limited features in taking said videos (and even less in pictures). The actual picture quality on the VIDEOS is wonderful. I have no complaint there whatsoever. My complaint is with the stabilization of the picture. Unless you have the camera on a tripod, your picture is going to be shaky. On playback (especially on a television) it actually makes you quite dizzy. If you happen to be walking while shooting video, forget it. You have to be as still as possible. There is an image stabilization setting (it's either "off" or "on") which is useless.

Still photos - This is where I have the biggest problem with this device. Here is what I expected: To just be able to get a clean image that can be viewed on a computer. No big deal. I know that there is no flash, fine - I'll take my pictures in well-lit areas; I know that I don't have ANY options for the lens (save landscape and macro mode) - fine I don't need a professional image, just a normal picture. The problem is that any photo you take between 2-5 feet away is BLURRY! Actually, a better description is probably fuzzy. I took dozens of photos of my children - all of which looked fine on the tiny camera screen, but when I uploaded them onto the computer, they were completely useless! They look exactly like a picture taken with a cell-phone. All I want is a clean, clear image - nothing fancy. When I contacted Kodak (on the phone for 1 1/2 hours) they told me to turn on the EIS (which was already on) and then they told me that they didn't know WHAT to tell me! I even e-mailed them 4 separate examples of my photos and do you know what they said?? This:

"...unfortunately this cannot be corrected by a repair. The Zi8 is a pocket video camera and its capability to capture still images is just an added feature on this video camera that other pocket camcorders does not have. The lens type of the Zi8 is limited to fixed focus only while the CCD total pixels is only 5.3 MP."

So basically, they say that the quality of the camera is crummy. It's funny because Kodak brags in all their descriptions about the still images like this: "Start bragging with amazing 5 MP, 16:9 widescreen HD still pictures". All Kodak said to me was, "sorry, but if you need help in the future, let us know." I NEED HELP NOW!

It's disappointing because the video quality is great, but you just can't watch them afterwards because it's so shaky and obnoxious. The sill photos are useless UNLESS it's a wide shot from 10 feet away or more. The things I loved about this camera were the fact that you could plug it straight into the computer and it could even charge that way; I love that you can use memory cards instead of internal memory like the Flip camera; I liked the accessories that it came with (cables to hook it up to the TV). I know that Kodak is coming out with another camera in September, but the description says that the still pictures are just 5MP just like their current models. Too bad. Maybe the picture stabilization will be better.

By the way, I was able to return it to Amazon so I'll keep looking for a better product. Thank you Amazon!!!!

Sweet Little Pocket Video Camera!

by S. Zitofsky from on 2010-08-29
I am loving my refurbished Kodak zi8! I took it to the Grand Canyon where I used it for the first time. Admittedly, I hadn't read the instructions prior to use (I received it and got on the plane), I found it somewhat difficult to navigate upon first use. I suggest reading the instruction manual to learn how to use it first! However, once I grasped the concept, I was able to easily use it to take fantastic video pictures. It also takes stills. It has its own USB cable tucked away, so it's simple to upload video. The quality, even on the low settings, is excellent! It has image stabilization, too, a great feature to prevent shaky video. I bought my camera refurbished for well under $100 and it's the way to go! My biggest complaint is that, as CNET review states, it shows fingerprints all over the camera, leaves smudges. But that's a very minor con. It's light weight, great battery life, and well worth the purchase (does HDMI, too)!! Love it. It is just what I wanted in a small, portable, hand held video camera.

just what I needed

I was looking for a pocket HD video recorder and this was the best value for money currently out in the market.I wish it had a little more zoom. But this meets my need.
