MiniDV tape playback / format problems?
Hi My United States faithful to buy JVC Mini DV camcorder broke recently and I bought a new JVC model in the UK. My old tape archives raw Video does not play in the new camcorder. The new one is the widescreen format, but may switch back to a standard format. Nor is high definition. The only difference is that I bought one in the U.S. and one in the UK. Two questions really - help me understand and fix the problem. Is there a specific coding region Mini DV tape (PAL vs. NTSC) or has the JVC uses coding changed in the last 4 years. What can I do to play the "old" tapes? Thank you!
You have to get a NTSC video camera to play old tapes. It really is not specific coding region, are these two formats different. NTSC is 29.97 frames per second, PAL is 25, and the number of lines is different. They are incompatible formats. Where are you planning to see the tapes? The U.S. or the UK? EDIT: Good point, pureinsomniac. Certainly, if the camera lets you change the configuration, the easiest way to do it. My guess is that it does not, but then again, I have a. JVC thus recapitulating. If you can get your hands on an NTSC camera and most of its filming is done in the U.S. so that you are watching on U.S. TV or other countries with NTSC, I would consider getting a new camera NTSC PAL and the sale of one of them if the camera actually does not let you select the format (especially if there have been many films PAL). If the camera can be changed, then hey, all good, without problems. Now if you're in the UK and plan to see your stuff on TV in the UK or other countries that use PAL, then certainly keep PAL camera and considering any conversion if you need to use or view your NTSC tapes for any reason. A camera could also be economic NTSC a good idea if you have many tapes, so that it can be used as a mallet instead of paying more to the tapes have been transferred. It all depends on the current camera functions and their needs.
