Panasonic Hdd Camcorder Software

Panasonic SDR-H80 Unboxing

Part 1: What are the files of Tod?

Video file captured by a JVC Everio camcorder, as the GZ-HD3, GZ-HD7, which has saved in a proprietary format that can be viewed using the Cyberlink software included with JVC camcorders. Recent versions of other software video editing may also be able to import files from TOD (see below), the included Cyberlink PowerDirector application can import and export files TOD as. MPG, which are visible from most video editing programs.

NOTE: Some cameras JVC Everio save files video with a. MOD extension, which is similar to TOD format.

Part 2, MOD and TOD files

MOD and TOD are informal names of tapeless video formats used by JVC (MOD and TOD), Panasonic (MOD only) and Canon (MOD only) on some models digital camcorders. Format names correspond to the video file extensions. JVC nor Panasonic, which pioneered the format, explained the meaning of file extensions. MOD files are used exclusively for standard-definition video, while TOD is used for high definition files. Formats never given an official name. MOD video can be viewed on a computer with a player who is capable of playing MPEG-2 video. This video can easily be the author to see in a DVD player without recompression, as it is fully compatible with standard DVD-Video. TOD format is comparable to the AVCHD format, but can not be directly played in consumer video equipment. Media files must be packed in distribution formats like HD DVD or Blu-ray Disc, using the authoring software. One way of recording TOD, "1440CBR" has the same structure size, aspect ratio and frame rate as 1080i HDV, and may be vaguely called "HDV on disk".

Flip review

by Sandy from on 2010-09-10
I haven’t used it too much yet but from what time I have put in on it I don’t know why someone didn’t think of this long ago. I mean I’m not a famous movie producer and don’t need all the functions that come on the camcorders today.

works great!

by Uwe Paul Schroeder from on 2010-09-08
I bought this little video camera a couple of weeks ago. Purpose was to have something ultra portable which still records decent quality video. I have to say I’m quite pleasantly surprised, the video and audio quality is great! The battery will last 120min recording, but only if you don’t keep replaying videos that you just shot. If you keep this in mind battery life shouldn’t be an issue. I didn’t test the software that was included, using my mac worked just as fine. The only drawback I could find was the zoom function which is very limited. But for the intended purpose it still works ok for me. Don’t expect to get great shots of some object far away.

Ultra Flip Limited Life

by Paula Usrey from on 2010-09-08
I loved the Ultra Flip when I first got it. It was easy to use. I could also upload videos with ease. However, it quit working after about six months. I tried to reset the camcorder as instructed, but it still doesn’t work. I also tried recharging it. From what I have read, others have had similar problems. I don’t know if I will buy another flip camera or not. However, I may have just purchased a lemon and might have better luck next time. The price was certainly good.

Needs image stabilization

by Shopperholic from Copiague, NY United States on 2010-09-06
I am not sure why these cameras are so popular. I’m not tossing it in the Goodwill box, but I would not buy another.

Biggest con, no stabilization. I found the video to be waaaaay too jumpy.

But even when I’m not trying to use it on a boat, I love the fact that you can use regular AA batteries when the battery goes dead. This pro, however, is somewhat canceled out by lack of removable storage. If I could swap out batteries and memory cards I wouldn’t be tied to my laptop so much. I would like the ability to record in non-hd to maximize storage but if that’s an option I can’t find it.

And while the large lens looks great, the fact that it protrudes so much makes it a fingerprint magnet.

The included Flip-share software is pretty cool, I wish it had the capability to view and share video from other devices.

Battery does not charge

by Pickypicky from Massachusetts, USA on 2010-09-06
I would like to weigh in on the battery charging capability. I bought a Flip Video HD camera last December (so I have owned it about 8 months), and I have never managed to successfully charge the original battery pack through the USB connector attached to a computer, as it is supposed to do. For a while I resorted to using AA batteries all the time. Then recently I purchased the flip video power adapter. After hooking up the video camera to the power adapter and leaving it to charge overnight, the rechargeable battery pack still did not charge. I’m still trying to figure out which part of the equipment is faulty – whether it’s the battery or the camera. This has been a significant source of frustration and has caused me to avoid using the camera. I think it is too late for me to return it (though I think I will look at the manufacturer’s warranty now), but I would like to advise anyone else who has this charging issue straight out of the box to return the product for a refund.

Fabulous for Family

by Mae Husted from on 2010-09-07
I LOVE this product. I am a very busy Mom with very busy kids. I took the camcorder out of the package and had it working in less than 5 minutes. It’s so easy to use, my 5 yeara old does self-recordings with it! Great product, great size, and great price. File transfer is super easy too. I have recommended this to friends and they have purchased it also.

easy!

i am technically challenged and this is a breeze
as a new Mom i can get it to operate really fast and
catch a moment in a pinch!

Easy to use. Eats through batteries.

by Jason Torchio from on 2010-08-30
Very easy to set up and use but I feel like I’m replacing the batteries a lot more frequently than I had anticipated, and I’m not using cheap $1 store batteries either.

Shaky Video

by Dutch from Nebraska on 2010-08-30
The Flip is a wonderful camera — easy to use, extremely portable with good-looking video. The big problem is shaky video. It’s impossible to hold the camera still for more than a few seconds. I’ve solved the problem with a pocket-sized gizmo called the readysteady. I got it online.

Lightweight, Durable, VERY easy to operate, vivid pictures

by Lacey B. from Austin, TX on 2010-08-30
The camera is what to be expected, good quality for the price. We took it snorkeling on two seperate occasions once in the Carribean and once off the coast of Mexico and also to a waterpark using the underwater case that is available to purchase. I love that it easily holds 2 hours of video, pretty good quality, I love that it so easy to connect to your computer. We have had it for a long time and still have not changed the batteries, which is amazing!

Its a great camera for younger kids and teenagers who like capturing video. We use the Flip Video software and capture frame-by-frame photos from the videos once we download them to our computers, which is a great feature; however, the quality for these captured photos are not the same as you would get from a nice digital camera but still, really good. I think its a great price & good value!

Highly recommended for amateur photographers

by Kris E. Obermeyer from WEST LAFAYETTE, IN. USA on 2010-08-29
I would like to recommend this camera for all amateur or professional photographers. I have a similar camera to this one and I have no problems with it. The wide screen is pretty awesome!!! I have been using these cameras for Praise/worship services, they do a great job serving its purpose. Clear pictures is what you really want and the still photos are also very good. If you get the battery that holds 248-250 minutes you have made the right choice. You can easily set your camera at the LP mode and many times you will get an hour of recording instead of 30 minutes. When I purchased this camera there were many negative reviews about this camera, but so far I have all the praise for this camera. Great camera to put inside your pockets without having to put into a case. Will enjoy this camera for many years to come.

Me no speaka the language!

by Brent Howard from Centre, AL, US on 2010-08-24
Bought this camcorder for my wife to use primarily. We have a new baby so I wanted something easy to use and that would provide quality recording. Not disappointed there. The only problem was the initial use was at other daughter’s sweet sixteen birthday party. Since my wife had not taken it out of the box yet I was hurriedly trying to get it set up to film the festivities. Unfortunatley, the default language setting was Spanish!! The instructions in the manual were incorrect so it took about thirty minutes of trial and error button pushing to get the settings to English. Besides that little problem this camcorder is muy bueno!

Sony Camcorder

once I figured how to work all the buttons it was easy to use..they need to be more specific on the instructions the Camcorder works like a dream…needs a larger battery for extended taping time

LOVE IT!!

by Linda Hanson from Colfax, IL United States on 2010-08-11
I love this camcorder because I don’t like to spend a lot of time figuring out how to work anything. I got it set up in the car on the way to visit family so it would be ready. Very easy except it came set up in Spanish (what is with that). Better check on that before they are sent out is all I can say. Otherwise it is very easy to use and makes great videos.

Lovin it so far.

by dhmom from on 2010-08-07
Love the camera, the battery life and the ease of use on most features. The only downfall is the finalizing discs before you can watch on a dvd player. The true test will be at the beach later this summer. Great camera for the price!!!

Kodak PlaySport

This is a great little unit but you have to get the SD card or you can’t take any video. W/a 8 gig SD card I can get 1.5+ hours of video. Only bad thing is that the camera does not have a flash so no good at night. who desinged it that way? a $150.00 camera without a flash ?

Love it! Prefer it over the Flip!

by The Toast Pirate from on 2010-09-10
I got this camera as a graduation gift this past May and have absolutely adored it! It got some pretty intense use over the past summer, including several all-day theme park trips, in which it went with me on both roller coasters and water rides. (I even dropped it on one of the rides and it survived no worse for the wear!) I’ve taken it swimming on multiple occasions, and it still works great! No leaking, no malfunctions. It charges quickly, and seems to stay charged for a decent amount of time, although, I bought an extra battery that I carry with me just in case. My only qualm with this camera is the speakers aren’t very loud when listening to play back. Other than that though, I LOVE this camera, and would DEFINTELY recommend it to anyone! I actually suggested it to one of my friends and he loves his also.

Great waterproof camera/video – but no flash!

by JMTRELLA from guilford, ct USA on 2010-09-09
We love this camera, but it needs a flash to replace our regular camera. We’ve used it several times since we purchased it in May (the Great Barrier Reef, Grand Turk and our friends used it in Hawaii). It took wonderful day-time videos and pictures, and better than disposables underwater pictures and video when we figured out the proper setting. We’ve been able to take a ton of pictures on 8gb with a decent battery life. Our underwater videos would’ve gone much longer than our snorkleing dives, but were enjoyable to watch (you can only hold your breath for so long!).
WELL WORTH THE PRICE! BUT, it needs a flash for most indoor pictures/videos!

Better than the Flip!

by m0ngr31 from on 2010-09-09
All of my sisters have a Flip, and I haven’t been that impressed, so I figured I’d try the PlaySport. I’ve loved this thing! The first place I used it was at a waterpark and it goes underwater just fine! HD looks good on my 46″ 1080p TV.

Pros:
-Build quality seems solid
-Waterproof!
-Uses SD cards for storage
-No USB switchblade that breaks easily like the Flips
-Good HD picture

Cons:
-Screen scratches fairly easily. I had it in my pockets for a few minutes with my keys and it got a few small scratches
-Picture quality isn’t the best. Only 5MP, but I have an older camera that takes much better pictures at 5MP than this does
-Doesn’t do really great in low-light situations, but I’ve seen worse.

Worth the money though. Best device on the market in this price range. Much better than the FlipVideo IMHO.

Perfect for On-The-Go!

by ChrisAnn4 from on 2010-09-08
This is the perfect camera for on-the go and is about the size of a cell phone. Fits perfectly in my purse! So easy to operate. My 4-year-old can even use it! HD video is amazing. Outdoor quality is FANTASTIC! Even the still shots are great outside. Only complaint would be the dark pics/video inside b/c there is no flash (I guess that is what my digital SLR is for!) For the price, and DURABILITY, it’s fantastic! Love that you can add your own memory and it’s not internal like the “Flip”. I’ve had two other friends buy one after seeing mine.

Do Not Buy, POS

Videos are bad and still pics are worse.
This camera, if you can call it a camera, is good to use for a paper weight.
I sent mine back. I have a digital camera that shoots better video then this video thingy.

An fairly acceptable entry-level camcorder

by cys from on 2010-08-26
I bought this from newegg for $99 plus $5 shipping. I have seen mixed review comments but decided to give it a try anyway, the price was too good to pass on.

It turned out to be a fairly acceptable SD camcorder. Voice quality is actually quite good, video quality is not the best among its category but quite acceptable to me. Its video quality is comparable to some early digital camcorders (digital 8/mini-DV) and actually slightly better than my Sony old Hi-8 camcorder (CCD TRV65) that cost my 8 times as much 12 years ago and weight 4 times as much. Low light performance is also acceptable but fairly limited.

Optical zoom is pretty good although you will want a tripod when it approaches the end of range. Sometimes camera has trouble hunting for focus near far end of zoom range.

Picture quality is pathetic, low-light performance is even worse. It is cellphone quality. Not a cellphone like iPhone, but those free phone cellphone company gives you when you signed up for 2 years contract. You just can’t get a quality 2M picture with 680K CCD.

Overall the camcorder is quite user friendly. A simple point and shoot and share camcorder. I will use it to shoot family/kids video and share them with grandparents over internet so I would prefer lower bitrate over higher video quality.

Pixel aspect ratio for widescreen video are not set properly by this camcorder. As a result when you play them back in a computer the video will be squeezed horizontally. You can either set the aspect ratio manually in your media player (16×9) or use software tool like Yamb to fix the pixel aspect ratio. I hope Samsung can release a firmware update to address this issue.

Great Camcorder!

by Tammy Martin from BENNETTSVILLE, SC, US on 2010-08-11
This camcorder has excellent video and audio quality. The Smart Record feature is a God-send for amateur videographers! There are 2 drawbacks: 1) the videos take up a lot of disc space and 2) video playback drains my laptop’s memory, which causes audio “hiccups”. Fortunately, when you upload a video to YouTube, the audio “hiccups” are not there. Just make sure to delete videos that you don’t want to use and use a disc defragger (e.g., Auslogics) to unfragment your computer files after video editing. Great camcorder for the price. I’m sticking with this one!

Starter camera that’s easy to use but not high definition

by BMAR from Northern USA on 2010-08-10
We took this camera on vacation twice and the best feature was that it was inexpensive enough that I felt perfectly comfortable letting my 8-year old son take over it for shooting vacation videos of reasonable quality. However, the definition of the pictures were not crisp or clear enough that I would want to make this my go-to camera for high quality videos of truly valuable recordings that I hope to keep for a lifetime.

So while the camera is easy to use and handle and small enough to make it a good travel camera, the trade off for price is the quality of the video.

Definitely a good starter camera or travel camera that the entire family can use.

Comatible with a Mac? Rarely.

by Chris Donaldson from on 2010-09-07
To say this camera works seamlessly with a Mac is a joke. It’s very spotty at best – and I’ve spent literally hours (today for example) trying to get iMovie ‘09 to recognize the camera – even though the camera icon shows up as a drive on the desktop. Yes, I’ve downloaded video in the past, but it’s always a crapshoot. So buyer beware.

I had NO idea Canon would even release a camera that didn’t work seamlessly with the Mac Platform. Disappointed to say the least. Help!

fs300 – just right!

by Golda J. Porter from on 2010-08-04
First let me comment on the Amazon services. We first started out ordering a Kodak zi8, a really neat shirt pocket camcorder. Our first attempt to load it into our computer was a bust. Amazon said “send it back, we’ll send a new one”…..same results trying to load using the Kodak ARCSOFT MEDIAIMPRESSIONS software. Very poor support advice from Kodak, and non-existent from ARCSOFT. So, not to give up we did a little research and came up with the FS-300 Canon. It has been fun, and no problem with the software….thanks Canon, we’re not the most savvy computer users, (age 74 dinosaurs). Would now like to make a few comments about our FS-300 that I hope will be useful to others. First, the instruction book and computer info is very abbreviated, needs to be more info for varying situations. Second, I find the camera easy to start and stop, but getting to the features is a little complicated, so its not as simple as some people might indicate, especially for a novice. Third, let me suggest a monopod for really steady recording, the camera is so small that this great little walking stick isn’t bothered at all by the FS-300 perching atop it. Again, let me compliment Amazon for there Amazing customer service…..great AMERICAN company. Very respectfully, Ralph Porter, CPO, USN,Ret.

Great For Home Movies

by MG from on 2010-08-01
I got this camcorder to replace an outdated compact VHS comcorder I’ve had for about 7 years. I needed this to record home movies, talent shows, vacations, etc. I was worried about image stabilizing and low light situations. I look at customer web reviews and always look into Consumer Reports reviews any time I buy something I know nothing about. I love it. Technology sure has come a long way. I think the picture is great and the low light situations are better than with a VHS camcorder, so I’m happy. The image stabilizing is a must for me because I am horrible at shaking when I’m recording (really… people would joke about motion sickness while watching old videos I made with the camcorder not on a tripod), and it really helps on this camcorder. I’m very happy with the purchase. One thing you should know… I asked a salesman about taking a photo with it, and he said, “If you want a photo, use a camera.” So I never have used it to take a picture.

Good camera for a good price

by Denis from on 2010-07-19
I have not had problems with this camera. I have made very good movies and some pictures ok. The sw is not sophisticated, but sufficient for my needs. It’s a good product to use on weekends (register their children on the beach, shooting a sport using the powerfull zoom), without major pretensions. I recommend the purchase. Good buy with a good price.

Review of Camcorder

The camera seems to perform very well, so far. I’ve just learned how to use it; makes video recording easy – so far.

old style handycam

by Robert K. Waitman from on 2010-08-17
the screen sometimes gets blury and you cant focus with it, the battery lasts for 1 hour, “unless you buy the extended battery” that lasts for 5 hours. and its old the anolog suck’s and the dv version is 50-100 bucks more so dont waist your hard earned dough on this!

defective LCD screen

by J. Steiger from Philadelphia,pa on 2010-05-25
This is the second handy cam I was stupid enough to buy! With he first model HC 20, the LCD screen was recalled. After sending mine back and getting it fixed, it proceeded to break again within 3 months. Thinking that they would rectify this problem I soon bought the HC 52. Within a year now, it’s LCD screen is not working and they want $70 dollars to repair! Forget it! No more Sony for me!

*****Excellent Value*****

by zaneyaa from USA on 2010-05-18
Its not high definition but the video quality is very good for this price.
The Sony DCR-HC52 is well built (solid), has very nice basic features and easy to use.
Great unless you have the computer horsepower and $$$$ for a (HD) high definition camcorder
like the Canon VIXIA HF40 (also with fire-wire/ilink, maybe my next camcorder).
Its auto-focus works well and this camcorder is an excellent weight, not too heavy and not too light.
I use it just fine with an older G4 Macintosh that has a fire-wire port.
Imovie recognizes this camera and imports the video for editing easily and exported DV files work
fine to make DVD’s with my Mac’s pre-installed iMovie and iDVD applications.
I been somewhat discouraged by new HD camera reviews from users that mention problems with
the new non fire-wire camcorders with Mac computers especially Sony camcorders.
This it not the case with the Sony DCR-HC52 made in 2008……..
You can find the Sony DCR-HC52 now (May 2010) for less than $250.00 new.

Great 2nd Camcorder

by Mitch from Michigan on 2010-02-10
Bought this after reading the reviews here at Amazon. Went to Best Buy and they recomended this one as well. We have 2 kids in different sports that play at the same time, which was the need for the purchase. Checked tracking 2 days before it was supposed to arrive, the info shown that the shipping company had not yet picked it up ? I emailed customer support had a response back that night that the order was lost? They shipped out another FedEx no charge and I still receive it on the orignal date that was promised !!!! I will continue to use Amazon as my first choice for purchasing as long as the customer support stays this good !

I have recommended this to friends and they have purchased it also.

easy!

by spanky1 from on 2010-09-03
i am technically challenged and this is a breeze
as a new Mom i can get it to operate really fast and
catch a moment in a pinch!

Excellent LITTLE Camcorder!

by 3 Wee Bairns from Buffalo, NY on 2010-08-31
I love this camcorder! It is very small – compared to the JVC Mini DV Camcorder that I’ve used for the last 10 years. I wanted JVC again since my old camcorder still works well, but was looking to downsize and get away from the tapes. The hard drive on this cam. stores over 19 hours of video – which is more than sufficient, and allows for plenty of time to download before you need to clear the memory. I charged it immediately out of the box and about 2 hours later was recording my kids in the yard. The next day, I downloaded the software and burned a DVD which plays on my DVD player (not just the computer!)

The battery life is somewhat short – about 40 minutes of actual recording time, however I usually purchase an extra battery for backup (so one can be charging while the others in use or to take both out an a long adventure) and they do have a couple of extended life batteries available. Not to mention the great price Amazon had on the camcorder! MUCH less than the MSRP :) I had been looking at the JVC flash drive models, but when I figured in the cost of purchasing 2 16GB SD cards – this model came out to be more cost effective and whith more recording time.

As expected

by casualshopper from on 2010-08-29
The camera arrived exactly as I was told, on time and great shape. The camera is really light and easy to use. I love the great zoom and it has a good video quality for the price I am paying. I know that I can get better video quality with a different model, but the prices increase exponentially.

battery life short

by Phil from on 2010-08-18
I like the camera for the fact that I can upload videos I record with ease. What I don’t like about it is that the battery life is too short. I would buy extra batteries but they are too expensive.

exactly what I wanted

by consumernation from on 2010-08-05
I did a decent amount of research and found this camera to be the perfect father’s day gift for my husband. It is small enough to conveniently take most places, yet gives a great picture and has uber-amounts of memory. Easy to upload to computer and then share videos via email. Only downside… need a dvd burner to actually record to a disc, which most people probably have on their computer, we obviously do not (making it the downside).

HD camcorder

by D. Mccauley from COLLEYVILLE, TX, US on 2010-09-08
When I went out and experimented it on shoots, it did a fairly good job. But a camcorder with weak autofocus is a bug. Otherwise it is a good design, with a good assortment of features and fairly priced.

the best camera i’ve tried

I tried a Sony, a Canon, and this Sanyo. The Sanyo is FAR AND AWAY the best camera of the three. It is simple to use and takes amazing video.

taking still images

Sanyo VPC-FH1A Full HD Video and 8 MP Digital Photos (Black)

I bought this camera and it shoots pretty videos. But im unable to take still images. When i press the photo button, it seems it focuses and if i remain pressing it, the image in the LCD screen goes off and on. So i think that the photo is taken. but no images when i run the slideshow. In video mode, i keep clicking the photo button but no images.

I returned the first one thinking something is faulty. Iam not able to take pics using the second one too. Is it something iam doing wrong. Can somebody shed some light.

————————–
I figured out what was the issue. You need to press a bit harder after the camera focuses to take the photo.

Happy with the purchase and Amazon service

I love the camera.

by Jon from on 2010-08-31
This may sound like a commercial, but I love the camera. It has replaced my Sony DCR-DVD610, which is a few years old. It is really small, just under the size of a soda can. The battery life is pretty amazing for my needs. I recorded a high school football game over the weekend, and it made it through the entire game in full HD 30fps.
It can get 201 minutes of voice memos
196 mins on 640×480
174 mins on 720p
156 mins on 1080p (30fps)
119 mins on 1080p (60fps)
I like all the situations I use it in,
-Low light concert like places([...])
-Football games ([...])
-Around the yard ([...])
-Filming my pets ([...])
-Time-lapsing the sky ([...])
All i have for public view. Those are the [...] links.

Little Sanyo delivers

by nick berezenko from on 2010-08-24
For the price, this compact little Sanyo really delivered. Sure it’s not the best at autofocus or metering difficult spotlit subjects. (I don’t know if higher-priced camcorders actually are much better at it–but suspect they are.) But overall, the camera has a nice big lens. delivers excellent, sharp crisp images, and is simple and easy to operate. I bought it used, but it came looking brand new, with all the accessories and cords and manuals and literature still sealed. I believed I got a great bargain and am most happy with Amazon and the seller, Wharehouse Deals, Inc.
