Know nothing about HD camcorders? Or know too much and feel information overloaded? If you’re just looking for something that will help you record everyday events, amusements, and incidents, you don’t necessarily need a state-of-the-art monster with all the bells and whistles. Sure, it doesn’t hurt to have a professional movie maker that can film under water, but most people don’t need to drop $3000+ just to capture life’s little moments. If you’re in the market for a decent HD camcorder but don’t know how to weed through the technology jungle to find one, you may want to check out one of the below:
1) Canon VIXIA HF200. A mid-range camcorder that will let you record crisp HD video directly to a removable SDHC memory card. The lack of an internal built-in memory keeps the cost of this one reasonable, but that won’t stop you from being able to take crisp video and great still shots with the 15x zoom HD video lens. The HF200 is pretty lightweight and easily transportable in your pocket which is huge in the convenience department when using it for everyday events. And although the lens might be small, the end result is sharp, saturated colors and excellent exposures. So for those times when your son is running around on the soccer field, this is one camcorder that will make sure you get it right.
2) Sony HDR-CX110. The Sony CX100 is just under $500 but definitely falls in the “great pick” category. With a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 25x optical zoom lens and SteadyShot image stabilization, this camcorder delivers beautiful video quality and gives you the option to take still shot photos while filming. Unlike a lot of cameras in this price range, the CX100 also features an “Exmor R” CMOS sensor that delivers above average low light performance for indoor and dim settings. That’s a huge plus if you’re filming around the house a lot. Lastly, the 2.7″ LCD display rotates 270 degrees to provide several viewing angles for all those action events that you don’t want to forget.
3) Flip Ultra HD. It’s been touted as the “world’s simplest HD camcorder” – which is perfect if you’re a novice or not looking for something too pricey. It’s really just a point-and-shoot model that records 720p high-definition video in a very pocket-friendly size. It only has a 2x digital zoom, but for around $175 you can’t expect much more. Use this if you know what you’ll use it for and if you’re sure you won’t need much else.
