Sanyo Pocket Camcorder boasts optical zoom
We've been waiting for a pocket camcorder high-definition optical zoom lens, Sanyo and finally delivers the goods today with the Sanyo Xacti VPC-PD2. VPC-PD2 pocket offers a 3x optical zoom ranging from an angle of 38 mm wide with a 114mm telephoto lens, with stereo microphones on the sides of the camera.
The VPC-PD2 is the first handheld camcorder from Sanyo, but the company has been making ultra-compact HD camcorders for some time.
Sanyo Xacti VPC-PD2: Specifications and Features
The camcorder records high-definition 1080p MPEG-4 video at 30 frames per second at its highest resolution settings (the camera also shoots video at 720p either 60 or 30 frames per second, and 640 by 480 standard definition video). In still-capture mode that snaps 10-megapixel photos and has a built-in flash can be used for still pictures only. Accessible via the camera menus, broke the VPC-PD2-shooting mode snaps 2-megapixel images continuously as you press the shutter button.
A sliding USB connector is responsible for downloading clips and battery, and video clips and images are stored to a user-supplied SD SDHC card, or SDXC. To help with awkward USB port settings on computers, the VPC-PD2 comes with an extension cable for video camera built into the connector USB.
The VPC-PD2 has an HDMI output port and is compatible with the Eye-Fi card, so you can upload files directly from the camera through Wi-Fi connection.
Priced at $ 170, the VPC-PD2 is due to be available Sept. 1.
Hands-On With the Sanyo Xacti VPC-PD2
During hands-on time with the video camera, I definitely liked having optical zoom while recording. Pictures and videos taken at full telephoto were generally sharper than the normal maximum working digital zoom cameras captured images of other pocket. That said, the zoom lens motor made some noise and were not sensitive pressure: the camera zoom in and out quickly, making it impossible to drive slowly in or out on a topic.
The camera controls video are intuitive after a few minutes of use. Pressing the left or right direction in four of the camera via directional pad, you can adjust resolution video capture and camera settings for flash; Meanwhile, up and down buttons control the optical zoom. The device is extremely Light, too, even when loaded with an SD card and removable rechargeable battery.
When I used to escape from still images, the dedicated shutter button that requires me to keep it down for about a second, I was a bit annoying. On the other hand, when the camera finally did take a picture, the picture looked crisp and well exposed, taking into account the size of the camera. The VPC-PD2 autofocus feature worked well, but I had the opportunity to test the camera only captures still images in a bright setting.
However, the Sanyo Xacti VPC-PD2 is a full-featured competitor in the field of pocket camcorders high definition, and is the only offer that strong optical zoom lens. Stay tuned for review complete this pocket camcorder in the coming weeks.
