If you do not even think any editing, it will be really far away from DVD based camcorders. VOB or VRO files are compressed to provide a quality too decent video when the files are decompressed and ripped from the DVD. Compressnig much as the last step is almost OK - but certainly not the first step in the process of capturing video - wrong. Idea hard drive and some flash for memory camcorders are fine, I suppose - but keep in mind that your MPEG2 (standard definition) and AVCHD files are highly compressed, so a relatively current computer with a fast CPU is needed for decoding and processing ground. Camcorders MiniDV tape continue to provide the best quality video available for DV and HDV compress the least. compressed data quality video = discarded data = reduced video. Furthermore, do not reuse the tapes, which are your file. With the hard drive or flash memory camcorders has an extra step of saving your archive files some other storage media ... If not, then delete the files from your hard drive or flash memory, as they have transferred the files to your computer and then finish editing ... then delete the files from your computer, then these fles are gone forever. The completed project will probably be in a highly compressed to DVD for playback on a DVD player ... With miniDV tape, you can export the finished project back to the video camera - and in the setting of high definition, then you can use your camcorder as a playback device and view your project in HD. If it is only standard definition it is a file within the long good solution, because the digital tape has a good life. These are just a few reasons why professionals continue to use miniDV tape ... if there was a better solution available, it would be in use.
