Good normal use battery. Gets about 150 mins (2.5 hrs. HQ HD) record time, and 240 mins.(4hrs) play time on the Sony HDR CX100 camcorder. This battery sticks out about an inch from the camera, which is okay for the record time you get. So I would say this is the ideal battery size for most people. Not too big and not too small, just right! This battery lasts almost 3 times as long as the NP-FH50 that came with the camcorder. For the price I paid on amazon, I highly recommend this battery.

Sony NPFH70 camcorder battery

I bought this battery as a spare battery for my Sony HDR-XR500V camcorder. When fully charged it only showed 153 minutes of charge remaining (not the 270 minutes or 4.5 hrs claimed on the package) as compared to the 99 minutes for the stock NPFH-60 battery that came with the camcorder. This was disappointing and I hope it does not get any worse with usage. The size of the battery was no bigger. Since I paid a much discounted price with the Amazon marketplace seller, this is not a bad deal.

The battery seems to be an excellent backup for the Canon product. It fits fine in the camera (the Canon 1200) and the charger; other reviews said they had difficulty with the non-Canon product being the wrong size, but I didn’t have that problem. Good price and it came fast. (I’ve seen replacement batteries in stores for $29!)

I was not going to write a product review for this, but after stumbling upon the negative reviews I figured I might as well add something. I purchased the “Maximal Power DB CAN NB-6L Replacement Battery for Canon Digital Cameras/Camcorders” in July of 2009 for my Canon SD1200IS. I have not experienced any problem whatsoever with this battery. My battery looks exactly like the amazon (not the user) picture shown: white wrapper, gray battery. It slides in and out of the camera like the original battery. The wrapper is not as tightly wrapped and glued around the battery as I would like, though it is no worse than the original Canon one in that respect. Or in any respect, for that matter: I cannot tell any difference between batteries. I seem to get the same amount of pictures/time out of a charge. Admittedly, I didn’t run any specific tests to prove this, so all I can say is that, if there are any performance differences, they are unnoticeable, even to a critical user like me. The camera itself doesn’t seem to ‘care’ it’s a non-Canon battery at all. Great back up, especially for the price!

A bit too large at first, but easily fixed

Like many other reviewers stated, this battery seemed a bit too large to fit into the battery compartments of both my Canon S90 and D10. I would really have to wiggle it quite a bit to fit completely in, and then had a hell of a time getting the battery out because it fit so snugly. I figured out that the plastic label that wraps around the battery wasn’t quite stuck on completely, so I really pushed down on the label going all the way around to get it to stick flat on the actual battery. No problems since then- slides in and out of both camera compartments just like the original Canon battery that came with the cameras. Great value for the price as a spare back-up.

Not Canon Batteries when Ordering From Eforcity

THIS IS NOT A SLAM AGAINST CANON OR ANY OF THEIR PRODUCTS. The OEM Canon batteries are excellent. I was a victim of a “bait-and-switch” (as were others) by Amazon and Eforcity. I “assumed” I was getting the BP511A Canon OEM battery when I ordered off what I thought was an Amazon webpage. What happened is that I got shuffled over to Eforcity’s webpage. On there was a picture of a Canon BP511A OEM battery in a bubble pack with Canon written all over it. The specs matched my current Canon batteries so I ordered two. I should have been leery of the price, but I ordered anyway. A few days later I get a package from Eforcity. Out pops two Chinese brand x knock-offs! They had a label saying BP511 and the specs were different. There was no way I was going to use these in my Canon cameras. I contacted Amazon immediately. They in turn contacted Eforcity who sent me an email asking if I wanted replacements or a refund. I wrote them a nasty email back claiming bait-and-switch and so on, but never heard back from them. I then contacted Amazon who promptly refunded my money. I was asked to write a review on my experience with Eforcity. When I read other reviews about them, it looked like there was a lot of bait-and-switch going on with that company. BUYER BEWARE!

Not what i ordered

It was listed as a canon BP511A 1390mAH It is not a canon, it is a knock off with 2300mAH. I cannot mix this with my battery because of the mAH difference. It works by itself but not as a pair.

Canon OEM Product Not Cheap but worth it!

This is the battery that should come with the Canon Vixia HF200. I can get almost 4+ hours if recording time with this OEM battery. Pricey but that’s what you get when you purchase OEM batteries, but they work like they are suppose too. I recommend this as your primary battery and use after market ones for backups. Those home videos of the family and vacations are too valuable to chance on after market batteries alone.

Pricey, but a must have!

I just bought this and paired it with the lastest Canon Vixia M31 camera. (Read my review…this is a great camera for those that don’t want something cheapo and yet can’t afford a $4k camcorder but want something just as solid!)

The Canon Vixia M31 is pretty ultra-light. It’s very light when matched with the battery that comes with it and even with the BP-827 battery, it’s still light enough to barely notice. One of my main concerns was, “Is this ‘large’ battery going to weigh a ton?”. Not at all. Are you going to get fatigued or need to go to the gym? Absolutely not. The total weight of the camera and the battery is like that of a small soup can. Technology is really amazing me!!

*Note that this camera uses flash memory and not a Hard drive.* The battery that comes with the M31, when turned on after a fresh recharge, shows 98 minutes of battery time. The actual “real world” time you’ll get will be dependent upon how much your zooming, re-playing recordings and overall “on” time. One could expect to have, safely, 60 minutes of recording time.

The Canon BP-827, after a fresh charge, shows 314 minutes (5hrs 14 mins) worth of battery. The same cavet applies from above, and one could expect a solid 4hrs of recording time during real usage.

Yes, the battery is pricey ($120) but the fact is: You ARE going to run out of battery when you consider how long most events you’ll be recording are. Soccer games, European trips, weddings, high school graduations, etc. 1hr of battery is just not going to cut it for the majority of situations. The M31’s included 1hr battery will make a great backup battery to give you an extra hour of recording.

I decided on the Canon brand battery despite there being “generic/cheaper” ones out there. I was just very wary of the fact that they are built to possibly different specs, may/may not be able to be charged while in the camera, if it has logic that stops it from charging once it reaches a full charge and may not be able to handle a large quantity of recharges. Canon is a solid brand that I completely trust. It’s up to you if you want to roll the dice.

It’s really hard to tell how big the battery is just from the pictures here. When I got the battery out of the box, I almost thought I ordered the wrong thing because it was TINY! Of course, my M31 hadn’t arrived yet, so I wasn’t sure how big the original was. It’s about 2.5 times longer than the orginal battery, which is incredibly tiny.

The larger battery does stick out from the back of the camera about 2″, but doesn’t impede any of the functions. To start/stop recording, your thumb, which would normally glide right across the back to the button, does have to go “around” the larger battery, but it’s not a big deal.

Also, some may think the larger battery jutting out doesn’t look as “sleek” or “cool”. I think it looks fine. The battery is a nice matte black, with rounded edges and fits well, in my opinion. What doesn’t look sleek or cool to me is having to carry around 3-4 extra batteries and stopping to swap out your dead battery every hour just so it looks “cool”. That’s gonna get old, really quick!

I also got the external charger, Canon CG-800, also a bit pricey for my tastes at $50. From what I’ve read, the charger cuts recharging time down about an hour. Besides, as you’re battery is off to the side charging, you can still walk around and record with your backup battery. Otherwise, you’ll be tethered to the wall as your battery charges directly inside the camera. Definitely check that out as well.

On the upside, if/when you upgrade the camera, if you stick with the Canon Vixia line, your batteries and charger will still work and it will be one less thing you’ll have to purchase later.

All in all, I’m very happy with this product and purchase, even despite it’s high cost. Somethings, you just have to spend the money on because they are necessary evils.

Very good battery

This lithium-ion battery pack is rated for 1050mAH at 3.7V. Made in China.

Be mindful that the 2 hours is just for the most ideal situation. That is if you will shoot continuously without pausing or turning off the camera. In real life situation, you will be pausing after every clip and still your LCD will be on for a minute. I only get an hour and a few minutes more in normal use. Still, this battery is decent and not one of those cheapos that advertise with a gazillion mAhs but never deliver.

Sony NP-FM50 InfoLithium Camera Battery

It was much cheaper than buying one from Sony. It was not a generic battery, which I was worried about. I bought a battery, from someone else, that was supposed to be an original, but it was a fake and once I got it in the camera, I had to pry it out. This one seems to be working fine. I haven’t had it that long so I don’t know about the battery life, yet.

Good quality for the money

The battery purchased with the camcorder 5 years ago slowed down a little and got upon recharge only 90 min. of recording time.
This new Sony NP-FM50 InfoLithium battery I purchased now came fully charged with recording time of 140 min.Price was absolutely OK. That’s very good. So far I’m fully satisfied. And – delivery was fast!

This is a Non-Sony battery pack

The title of this item says it is Sony NP-FM50 InfoLithium Battery, but what you are going to receive is a no name equivalent battery pack. The battery is not from Sony and does not have the same power ratings as that of the original battery that came with my camcorder. No where on the battery or on the box I find the name ‘Sony’. The battery pack that I received is SN-NP-FM50/55H and was shipped to me by Eforcity. This very same no name battery pack is sold by this seller on amazon for $6.15 and I paid $17.82 + S&H.

So anyone planning to buy this item, beware, you are NOT going to get a Sony battery.

I tried charging this battery, it stopped charging at 155 mins and would not say the charge is full like the original did. I unplugged the power cord and plugged it back again after couple of mins. without using any battery power, the battery started charging again from 125 mins.

When contacted seller, I got an email asking if I would like a refund or replacement, but would not say if the replacement is going to be a original battery.

This is not a SONY battery

BEWARE! Even though the title of this item is “Sony NPFM50 InfoLithium Battery”, it is NOT a Sony battery. It is a no-name knock-off. This company is lying to its customers and trying to sell you a cheaper battery under the guise of a the Sony brand name. I’m not sure how to report this to both Amazon and Sony, but this is “bait-and-switch” at its best. The battery arrived in an un-marked box, and “Sony” was not on the box nor the battery. I have a real Sony battery (that came with my camcorder), and this is NOT it!

When pushed to ship me what I had ordered (a true Sony battery), all the company would do is refund my money.

In my opinion the battery is big but it doesnt add to much weight to the camara. My camara says i have about 243 minutes of recording time, for me i never have to worry about running out of battery especially if you charge it every night.i have the sony HDR-HC5 h.d. camara. its a must!!

I bought this battery for my new sony camcorder hdr-XR500 and it works great and shows exactly the time that I can record just like it said on the product packaging itself. So far, I haven’t had time to use it but looks like the only downside to this is that battery is very BIG. But since it’s the best longest battery out there in the market for my sony camcorder, I’d say stick with this

Very large capacity battery. Battery meter on the Handycam said it should last for 400 minutes when I first put it on. I have no reason to believe that it wouldn’t.

Picked this up as a back-up battery for my Cannon. Have used it many times and its amazing….long battery life and cheaper than a “Cannon” battery. Defiantly a must have for any photographer.

I loved the price but not the product

I left this battery charging for 3 days and the red light on the charger never turned green. It still works on the camera, but it’s nothing compared to the original battery.

Better than the Canon

This battery lasts twice as long as the Canon battery. It was meant as back up but spends more time in the camera as it take much longer to drain than the Canon battery does.
